Dr. Gustafson was raised in Cheyenne and has chosen to continue to make his home here. In 1957, he moved here with his parents and two brothers where he began his education at Buffalo Ridge Elementary, then Carey Junior High, and graduated from East High School in 1971. Dr. Gustafson began his college education at Laramie County Community College, and then transferred to the University of Wyoming. He was next accepted by Creighton University’s College of Dentistry where he graduated in 1979. From there, Dr. Gustafson accepted a commission as an officer in the United States Army Dental Corps. During this time, he completed a four-year Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Residency Program at William Beaumont Army Medical Center at Fort Bliss (El Paso, Texas). After twenty-one years of military service, including multiple assignments in the United States, Europe and Korea, Dr. Gustafson retired as a Colonel and returned to Cheyenne. Here he entered private practice with Cheyenne Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Associates. Besides enjoying his occupation, Dr. Gustafson is also a Fellow of The American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons where he participates in the annual meeting as a delegate from Wyoming, and he is a Diplomat of the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery.
